IGCP 565 Workshop 3:
Separating Hydrological and Tectonic Signals in Geodetic Observations
Reno, Nevada, October 11-13, 2010

Workshop Program Overview

The program is in its semi-final version and may still change in some points. During the first day, we will review our knowledge of tectonic and hydrological signals and their fingerprint in geodetic observations and look into more details at the focus areas of Western U.S.. During the second day, breakout sessions will focus on identifying the challenges in forward modeling and the separation of the two signals on spatial scales from local to basin-wide, and temporal scales from days to decades. A second set of breakout sessions will consider secular signals on regional to global scales, assess the consistency of the tectonic and hydrological signals in time variable surface deformation, gravity and rotation, and discuss improvements of the observation system in order to enable a better separation of the signals. The last day will start with reports from the breakout sessions. Based on these reports, the science challenges will be identified and discussed. Finally, a number of presentations will develop a view forward and describe how the challenges may be addressed through observations, models and analyses.

The optional field trip initially offered for Thursday, October 14, 2010 has been canceled due to a lack of sufficient interest.

Rooms: All sessions will take place in the Joe Crowley Student Union (JCSU). Detailed room information will be made available here in due time.
